02:
Nuku Hiva
Breakfast
at the hotel.
Full day excursion by 4-wheel drive vehicle to the valley of Hatiheu,
on the north coast.
On the way, while the vehicle climbs up the hill, enjoy the magnificent
view over the bay of Taiohae. You will then drive through the valley
of Taipivai, the largest coconut grove of Polynesia, made famous by
the writer Melville in his novel “Typee”.
You will reach Hatiheu after 2 hours drive. Outstanding archeological
sites have been restored in the valley (Tohua Hikokua and Kamuihei Ceremonial
Center): while listening to your guide, you will travel back in time;
picturing the grand ceremonies taking place in these sacred sites.
Lunch will be served at the unique Restaurant Chez Yvonne: comfortably
installed at tables set on the terrace of a genuine wooden house, you
will never forget this special moment sampling local delicacies…
Afternoon
at leisure for relaxing, and visiting this very tiny village of Hatiheu.
Dinner at the hotel.
Day 03: Nuku Hiva
Breakfast at the hotel.
In the morning, enjoy a nice gentle hike towards and around the archaeological
site of Koueva. Restored for the 2000 Marquesan Art Festival, this site
is a pure testimony of the Marquesan Nature & Culture.

at the hotel.
Afternoon at leisure.
Dinner at the hotel.
Day 04: Nuku Hiva / Hiva
Oa
Breakfast at the hotel.
Morning at leisure.
Transfer to the airport by 4-wheel drive vehicle (duration: 2 hours
30 minutes)
On the way, enjoy the views on Toovi plateau, and the surrounding valleys.
Flight Nuku Hiva/Hiva Oa (duration: 35 minutes).
Arrival at Hiva Oa by lunch time.
Transfer by 4-wheel drive vehicle to Hotel Hanakee Hiva Oa Pearl Lodge.
(transfer duration: 30 minutes)
In the
afternoon, visit the pleasant village of Atuona, made famous by the
artists Paul Gauguin and Jacques Brel. Your itinerary includes:
• the little Paul Gauguin Museum: displaying old photographs,
copies of the artist’s paintings, and marquesan handicrafts.
• the replica of the “Maison du Jouir”, name given
by the artist to his house in Atuona
• the Calvary Cemetery, where Gauguin and Brel are buried.

Day
05:
Hiva Oa
Breakfast at the hotel.
In the morning, enjoy a leisure hike (1h30) towards “the”
unique smiling tiki hidden deep in the tropical forest down the hotel….
It is a very surprising piece of art.
Then your guide will take you uphill, with a 4 wheel drive vehicle,
until Jacques Brel’s stele. You will be delighted: the view from
this point is just outstanding….
You may enjoy hiking the way down (1hour) back to the hotel.

Day
06: Hiva Oa
Breakfast at the hotel.
Full day excursion by 4-wheel drive vehicle to Puamau, on the eastern
tip of the island.
Breathtaking drive along the winding coastline, through several valleys,
until reaching the picturesque village of Puamau.
This archeological site is made famous by “Takai”, the tallest
stone Tiki in Polynesia (2.43 meters); and the very exceptional “Makaii
Taua Pepe”, a tiki represented horizontally; very unique...
Lunch will be enjoyed at Marie-Antoinette’s home: you will have
the opportunity to taste real home-made marquesan dishes: marvellous
indeed!!
Afternoon at leisure to have a nice chat with this very friendly family;
relax, and return to Atuona.
Dinner at the hotel.
Day 07: Hiva Oa / Papeete
Breakfast at the hotel.
Morning, at leisure.
Transfer
by 4-wheel drive vehicle to airport for your return flight to Papeete.
